last star burns out

More than two-thirds of stars are Red Dwarfs, which are extrememly dim compared with our sun. Like massive slow combustion stoves, they burn long enough to see thousands of generations of the bright faster-burning types. However, even Red Dwarfs are mortal, and on timescales like these it is absolutely certain that they will all eventually collide with each other, contributing to the breakup of galaxies.

Hydrogen was the first element to form and is the fuel of stars; as it is used up the universe fades into darkness. When there is no more hydrogen, the Stelliferous Era ends.
